Need Some Pointers? This page should help, but it won't reveal all the secrets...
First, let's list the system requirements:
Pentium II 400 PC or higher
At least 75 MB of free hard drive space
64 MB of RAM (128 MB or better recommended)
Any 8 MB 3D Graphics card (16 MB or better recommended)
Any DirectX 7 compatible sound card
DirectX 7 or higher
Mouse
Windows 95 or higher
Second, let's discuss movement and keys:
You move using a combination of your mouse and the arrow keys. The arrow keys move you forward, back, and side-to-side. The mouse focuses your attention and aims your weapon. The left mouse button fires, and the right mouse button jumps.
You can exit the game at any time by hitting the ESCAPE (Esc) Key.
Third, let's identify the characters, objects, and obstacles:
Characters:

Grunts - The Grunts are the bad guys that try to prevent you from progressing through the level.

Bosses - The Bosses are the end-of-level opponent you must destroy to finish the level.
Objects:

Extra Lives - Find an Extra Life pack and you get another life for your player. Extra lives are found in each level, but not always along the quickest path to the exit.

Energy Bottles - The bottles of energy scattered throughout the levels give you the energy you need to survive the attacks of the Grunts and Bosses.
Obstacles:

Explosives Barrels - The barrels are a favorite cover for the Grunts. However, they are fairly easy to explode.

Dynamite Crates - The Bosses order the Grunts to setup the crates as stronger barriers to slow your progress and help them protect their valuables.

Barrel Walls - The barrel walls are impenetrable. The Bosses use them to impede your progress and provide cover.
Finally, some general hints:
To make the game more challenging, the Multi-level Retail version of The Crypt offers old-style, straight-through play. That means in order to get to the next level, you have to play your way through the previous levels without saving. That may seem like a disadvantage, but it adds a level of difficulty while not making the game unbeatable.
Question - Does that mean I can't take a break?
Hint - No. If you find a good hiding spot without any Grunts around, you can safely walk away from the game for a short break.
Hint - Always be aware of your energy level. If it starts to get low, find an Energy Bottle quick. The maximum energy level is 99, so if you already have a level of 99, don't waste bottles. Save them for later and go back to them when you need them.
